While Jung-in is straight-forward in her efforts, Ki-seok is equally evasive in his own determined efforts to keep the relationship going. But this delay isn’t keeping Jung-in from deepening her new involvement with the pharmacist, and the list of people in the know begins to grow. And pharmacist Ji-ho? As the world starts to open up with possibilities for him, he promises to be patient until the end. EPISODE 13 Ji-ho rides alongside Ki-seok in the car, on the phone with Jung-in. Ji-ho manages to convey that he’s currently with Ki-seok through a series of simple answers to her questions, and Jung-in is ready to hang up. But Ji-ho says no, and then asks Ki-seok to let him out of the car. Ji-ho remains in the car for a moment while Ki-seok babbles apologies for making him pick up the phone. Ji-ho stays silent, and then ducks out of the car and into the crosswalk. Ki-seok yells for him, but it’s drown out by the soundtrack a s Ji-ho staggers down the street in a disoriented jog. Jung-in grabs for a shawl and heads outside, while Ki-seok meets up with his basketball buddies. Ki-seok tells them all not to worry about Ji-ho, because he’s off to see a girl, and then he grins that he can’t wait to meet her. And yet, I bet you can. Ji-ho managed to stumble into a taxi, and now he arrives at Jung-in’s apartment, where he finds her with her head bowed like a contrite child. Before Ji-ho says anything, she asks if they can go somewhere less crowded before he yells, and they head to a nearby park. Sitting together on the bench, Jung-in asks if she can speak first, but Ji-ho says what he’ll assume she plans to say, that she’s sorry and that they couldn’t keep talking while Ki-seok was next to him. Jung-in counters with a, “You should have just put him on the phone then if you wanted to be bold,” and Ji-ho admits that he’s too scared to take any risks. Ji-ho says he wanted Jung-in to help push him away, since he couldn’t do it himself, and Jung-in says that she’s too busy trying to deal with her own heart to try to manage Ji-ho’s as well. Back at the restaurant, one of the guys ducks out to sooth his angry girlfriend. Ki-seok comments that the guy is on a short leash, and Hyun-soo sighs that he wishes that he had a girlfriend to put him on a leash. Ki-seok tells him to get a girlfriend then, and Hyun-soo responds that Ki-seok isn’t exactly in the position to hand out dating advice, considering his own currently rocky relationship status. Ki-seok can’t stand for a junior commenting on his ability to maintain a good relationship, so he leads Hyun-soo outside to put him in his place. Ki-seok is focused on Ji-ho and Young-jae’s visit to Jung-in’s apartment though, and now Hyun-soo is defensive of his friends. Hyun-soo insists that this isn’t normal behavior, especially for Ji-ho, and Ki-seok says that that’s even more worrisome. Because Ki-seok also recalls how worked up Ji-ho got when they were out to eat when Jung-in came up and then, Ki-seok puts it together, and he asks Hyun-soo if Ji-ho likes Jung-in. Now Hyun-soo raises his voice, and says that Ki-seok makes his friends sound like they just run around hitting on any women they find. Both men sulk at each other, neither wanting to give in, until finally Ki-seok says to forget it and heads back inside. Hyun-soo calls Young-jae immediately and lashes out at him for his behavior. He warns him to not see Jung-in or Jae-in again. And Young-jae shoots off a text to Ji-ho, warning him that Hyun-soo is upset. Back on that park bench, Ji-ho and Jung-in continue to try to sort their feelings. Ji-ho says that he knew, even when he was getting mad at her that it wasn’t right to do so. He says that he feels doomed, because while he’s too scared to fight for her, his love for her grows every day. He says that when he heard her try to break up with Ki-seok, he immediately began to worry that he wasn’t good enough for her himself. Jung-in shares her own worries, that even though her break up isn’t entirely due to her growing feelings for him, everyone will still come to their own conclusions and blame him. She says that she doesn’t know what she wants from a relationship, but that she’s not happy now. She looks down as she admits that she still wants to hope for a relationship where she isn’t the only passionate one, and a love where she doesn’t get hurt. And because of this, she says, she hasn’t even considered a relationship with Ji-ho yet. Ji-ho says that he understands, and then tells Jung-in that he’s willing to wait for her. “Even if I’m an old woman then?” she asks, and he replies with an affirmative and a smile. Ji-ho walks her back to her apartment and lingers until he sees her reach the elevators through the windows. He starts to walk home, but he gets a phone call. “Don’t turn around,” Jung-in says through the speaker, and her blurry figure ducks back out onto the street behind Ji-ho. Ji-ho holds out until he can’t any longer, and turns to face her. Jung-in tells him not to fall in love with anyone else while he waits for her, and reminds him that she’s a selfish and mean person that will hold him to this. And then she promises to shield him from all criticism when the time comes, and says that what she had actually wanted to say on the bench is that she promises that she won’t hurt him anymore. He promises that she can take all the time that she needs, and he’ll wait no matter now long. Then he leans in and hugs her, and after a moment, Jung-in’s arms reach up to return the embrace. Ji-ho wanders home among all the couples out to get their selfies with the night time cherry blossoms falling along the path, and he’s jubilant. Jung-in is cuddled at home when she receives a text from Ji-ho of the beautiful flowers that he’s looking at, and she smiles. Ji-ho smiles to himself as well, taking in the beautiful night. The next day, Jae-in runs into her mother at the grocery store. They shop together, even though Mom is obviously trying to hold up a stern front. Mom calls Jae-in a mooch for living off of Jung-in, but then transitions the conversation to Jung-in and asks what Jae-in thinks about her sister’s relationship with Ki-seok. Jae-in is vaguely positive at first, saying that Ki-seok came over for wine with them a few nights ago. But Mom asks again and after a pause, Jae-in says that her sister looks sad. It’s not the answer Mom was hoping for, as her shoulders sag. At the library, Jung-in stops to admire the poster for their upcoming book event with her slogan on it. Young-joo sneaks up to tease her for gloating, and then how her great idea is really just about her new relationship with the pharmacist. Jung-in confesses that Ji-ho said that he would wait for her, and Young-joo is both startled and impressed. But by the time Jung-in and Young-joo eat lunch, Jung-in asks what Young-joo would do if she was about to do something that would upset everyone. Young-joo points out that if it’s something that everyone would protest to, it’s probably not something good. Young-joo also wonders if there’s something wrong with Ji-ho that makes Jung-in hesitate, like a current girlfriend, and Jung-in says that she’ the one with the issue, not Ji-ho. Young-joo asks if Jung-in plans to break up with Ki-seok soon, and Jung-in says that they’re meeting tonight, a smile on her face as she thinks about it or maybe she’s thinking about the person she gets to spend more time with after it’s done. Young-joo sarcastically notes that Jung-in obviously feels awful about it. In the evening, the guys meet at Ji-ho’s place for dinner. Hyun-soo immediately dives into the topic of Ji-ho and Jung-in, and Ji-ho admits to his friends that there is something going on with him and Ki-seok’s girlfriend. Ji-ho said they met before and agreed to be friends, but that it didn’t stay that way. His friends remain supportive of him over Ki-seok, and ask if he plans to steal her from the guy, or if Jung-in will hurry up and make up her mind. Ji-ho tells him that he gets it, why it’s hard for her to make her decision, and how Ji-ho’s own complicated life situation makes it harder. They sit together, mulling over the situation as they drink their PPL Sprite. EPISODE 14 Jung-in waits at a coffee shop, ready to break up with Ki-seok, but he calls to say that once again, he can’t meet her to talk, this time because he’s out for a work dinner. Jung-in points out that this behavior demonstrates that she is not a priority to Ki-seok. She pushes forward, prepared to just break up over the phone, while Ki-seok says that he’ll cover over right away and that they can’t break up. Jung-in hangs up and calls Young-joo as she leaves the coffee shop. Young-joo is still at work, but says that she can meet Jung-in at her apartment soon. So off Jung-in heads to Young-joo/Ji-ho’s apartment building, where the guys are standing outside. “Has she been coming over?” Hyun-soo gasps, while Young-jae drags him away to leave Ji-ho and Jung-in to talk. Jung-in asks if Ji-ho has had dinner yet, and though his answer is yes, he still asks if he can come with her and watch her eat. Jung-in asks if he won’t be treating her to the meal, and he shrugs that his wallet isn’t on him. She smiles as she says that he wouldn’t buy even if that weren’t the case. At the restaurant, two bowls are set before them, but then Jung-in picks up Ji-ho’s bowl and places it next to her own. She intends to eat both, since Ji-ho isn’t eating. While she slurps at her two bowls, Ji-ho leans in to stare at her with dreamy eyes. Now Jung-in is uncomfortable, so she passes him a bowl and offers him a bite with her own chopsticks. There’s a moment, and then while Jung-in reaches clumsily for new chopsticks for him, he grabs the bowl and takes a big slurp with her utensils. Meanwhile, Seo-in gets a visit from her mother. As Mom pushes, Seo-in finally admits that she and Shi-hoon are in the process of getting a divorce, and currently aren’t living together. Mom says that she is impressed that Seo-in held out in this relationship this long. Seo-in says that she’s quit her job as well, and says that it’s because she’d like to go back to school. Seo-in wants to have Jae-in move in with her. Before Mom can ask another question, the doorbell begins to ring, over and over again. When Seo-in doesn’t rise to answer it, her phone buzzes with a call, and the doorbell keeps ringing. When it’s clear it’s not going to stop, Seo-in gets up to answer the door, Mom only a few steps behind. Shi-hoon swaggers in, until he spots Mom there and his eyes grow wide in shock. Mom pushes forward and takes Shi-hoon out into the hall to talk alone. Mom admonishes him for showing up like this when she understands that he no longer lives together with Seo-in. She tells him she’s disappointed, and that if this continues, she’ll make sure that the two of them get divorced. Mom watches as Shi-hoon boards the elevator, and then Shi-hoon’s look of shame flashes into something sharper and scarier as the doors close. Mom heads home, so distracted that she doesn’t even register her husband standing in the kitchen with her as she worries about her daughters. Seo-in broods in bed, and then receives a text from Mom “We can get through this. I love you.” The next day, it’s round two at the coffee shop, and this time Ki-seok shows up. Not only that, but he plies Jung-in with compliments. Just as Jung-in starts to utter the words, Ki-seok interrupts that he still wants to try to make things work, and that his father is interested in meeting Jung-in. It’s an opportunity that Jung-in can’t resist, and she agrees to him with him. As they get into Ki-seok’s car, Jung-in asks to meet Ki-seok’s father by herself. Ki-seok seems a little uncomfortable, but he doesn’t argue anymore and agrees. Over at the pharmacy, Ji-ho’s mom stops by with Eun-woo and they all go out to lunch together. As they’re eating, Mom asks about the teacher at the library Ji-ho says she’s just a friend, and then she mentions that there’s a woman that she’d like to set Ji-ho up with. Ji-ho takes a breath and then confesses that there’s someone who he’s interested in right now. Mom is overcome with happiness to hear that, and Ji-ho has to choke back his own tears as his mother cries with joy. Mom’s tears are still flowing even back at the store. They wonder if the mystery woman has a kid of her own, and then agree that as long as Ji-ho and the woman want to be together, that’s all that matters. Meanwhile, Chairman Kwon receives a call from Jung-in to set up a meeting. He’s surprised to hear from her directly, not Ki-seok, and even moreso when she asks to meet him without Ki-seok, but his smile suggests that he’s not offended by any of it. That evening, Jae-in lingers outside Young-jae’s cram school to take him out. But Young-jae says that he’s too busy studying, and when Jae-in says she’ll come by next time, he says that he’s going to be too busy for a while. Jae-in gets the point, and snarls that Young-jae better pass the test this time from all that studying. At home Jae-in confesses that Young-jae rejected her, and tells Jung-in she should dump the pharmacist too. Jae-in then relays that Mom was asking after Jung-in and is worried about her. Later that night, Jung-in tells Ji-ho over the phone about the Jae-in/Young-jae incident, and she wonders if it was because of her. Ji-ho says that Young-jae isn’t like that and he probably just really needs to study. Jung-in mentions that Jae-in knows about them, and then Ji-ho admits that he told his mother that he likes someone. Jung-in asks what his mom said about it, and Ji-ho says that she cried. Jung-in promises again that she won’t hurt him, and Ji-ho says that they’ll both be good to one another. Ji-ho chuckles about how surreal it feels to say, “we” in regards to the two of them. The next day, Chairman Kwon asks his secretary to set up his lunch with Jung-in. Jung-in’s dad arrives and is completely surprised to hear that the chairman is meeting with Jung-in. Chairman Kwon calls Jung-in “daring,” and it definitely sounds like a compliment. Meanwhile, Ki-seok is at a jewelry shop, asking to see a ring. Oh no, Ki-seok. Don’t do it. Ji-ho picks up Eun-woo for a trip to the library, while Jung-in dresses in her best neutral outfit and heads out for her lunch date with the chairman. The chairman offers his hand to greet her with a handshake, and sits down eager to talk with Jung-in. Jung-in doesn’t beat around the bush and dives directly into the topic on her mind she knows that Chairman Kwon doesn’t approve of her, but she hadn’t really considered it since she hadn’t started dating Ki-seok with marriage in mind. At the library lunch room, Eun-woo is disappointed that the teacher isn’t working that day. Eun-woo asks for water, and Ji-ho bumps into Young-joo. She asks why he’s there since Jung-in isn’t working, and when he gestures to Eun-woo she smiles and notes that he’s here with his nephew, garnering only a tight smile from Ji-ho. The lunch with the chairman continues, and Chairman Kwon praises Jung-in for being opinionated. He says that he got the impression that even her father was afraid of her, and tells her that’s a compliment. Jung-in then tells him that she’s incredibly grateful for the position that the chairman offered her father in his organization, regardless of the state of Jung-in and Ki-seok’s relationship. At home, Jung-in’s Dad paces the kitchen, desperate for news from Jung-in. Mom shoves her phone at him so that he can wait for Jung-in to call himself, while he continues to pace nervously. Ki-seok’s officially purchased something from the jeweler, while Ji-ho spots Jung-in’s event poster as he wanders the library halls. Back to the lunch with Chairman Kwon, he asks if Jung-in and Ki-seok have discussed marriage. Jung-in says that they have, and the chairman says that it sounds like the two aren’t on the same page about it. “I’m sorry,” Jung-in says. “I don’t want to get married.” COMMENTS I knew the chairman was going to take a liking to Jung-in as soon as she made that phone call. He’s been flippant and a bit of a jerk, he’s a guy that believes that love is like a business deal, and yet, I was never convinced that he had any other motives other than wanting his son married. And if he’s been resistant to Jung-in all this time, it seems like that resistance was rooted in his feelings about her father. But instead of a meek yes-woman who takes after her dad, Chairman Kwon sees Jung-in as a woman who is assertive and sticks to her believes, and I’m pretty sure all those smiles he shot Jung-in’s way means that he admires those traits. We’ve yet to see how he will handle Jung-in rejecting his son though. He may like Jung-in’s self-assured manner, but that might not be enough to withstand a blow to his pride. So he’ll either rebuke Jung-in for daring to not love his son, or take away Ki-seok’s basketball court privileges until he steps up his game. We’ll see how it goes soon enough. And Ki-seok has officially moved on from one of my favorite characters and officially into bad guy status. I knew it was inevitable, but I’m still sad to see him go that direction. When your girlfriend asks to break up, it shouldn’t take her more than one conversation to get it done. And you should definitely not be buying engagement rings after you’ve basically been broken up with over three times now. And it’s this, not the apathy of their relationship, that is the real cause of the breakdown. Ki-seok doesn’t think about how Jung-in feels at all. He doesn’t care about what she actually wants. He doesn’t seem to care about anything at all, honestly. And that’s too bad, because when he’s lost his girlfriend, and then his job if he keeps helping Shi-hoon out, what is he going to have left? Moving on to Shi-hoon, I’m surprised that he managed to look contrite for as long as he did in the hall with Mom, and I was not surprised at all by that gleam in his eye as the elevator closed. It was a gleam that said that he wasn’t going to let anyone get in his way, not even Seo-in’s family. And it’s scary. There is a possibility that Seo-in’s life could be in danger soon, once Shi-hoon feels like he’s in a corner with nothing left to lose. His look did not say that he respected anything that Mom had to say. As worried as I am for Seo-in, I’m also concerned about Jae-in now. We know that she’s not good with rejection, and as much as she’s been trying to play it casual with Young-jae, it’s clear that she’s hurt by his rejection. Will the stalking habits return now that Young-jae is avoiding her? And how does that complicate the already tangled web of inter-relationships going on here? I’m worried that Jung-in and Ji-ho will be asked to take sides as this conflict develops. As for Ji-ho and Jung-in, as much as they may be holding back, things are still moving forward and I love it. They already have the kind of relationship where they are talking to each other at the end of every day and playfully teasing one another over dinner. I’d consider it emotional cheating on Jung-in’s behalf, except that Jung-in has been actively trying to end her current relationship for days now. She is doing her best to not make the break-up about this newly blossoming romance, but the longer Ki-seok holds out, the more likely that he try to feel justified in his indignation. Especially since he already has his suspicions, and the number of people who know about the relationship is growing around him. Even when her boyfriend suspects that there could be someone else, the thought that Jung-in could open her heart to a single dad is unfathomable. Though denial may stall a break up, but it can’t stop a growing bond between Jung-in and our pharmacist. EPISODE 11 RECAP Jung-in locks her gaze on Ji-ho’s face while she tells Ki-seok that she wants to break up. Ji-ho steps outside so Jung-in can have some privacy while she tries to convince Ki-seok that she’s serious. Ki-seok asks for Jung-in’s reason but she tells him, “…let’s break up without any reason,” and with nothing more to say, she hangs up. Jung-in lets Ji-ho back into her apartment and when he offers to leave as soon as Young-jae returns, Jung-in assures him it’s not necessary because, “This has nothing to do with you.” Ji-ho isn’t sure how he feels now that the woman that he’s attracted to just broke up with her boyfriend. Jung-in tells Ji-ho that she isn’t sure when her confusion began, only that she avoided dealing with it. The tension eases when Ji-ho jokes that he helped out by serving as Jung-in’s punching bag. Jae-in and Young-jae return and as they wait for the elevator, Young-jae worries that Jung-in might not want company. Jae-in reminds him that her sister is the straightforward type but Young-jae doesn’t see her that way. Annoyed that Young-jae has paid that much attention to Jung-in, Jae-in threatens to go after Ji-ho until she remembers that he likes someone. Young-jae warns Jae-in not to mention it but once they’re upstairs and Jae-in has had a few drinks, she confronts Ji-ho, “I heard you’re head over heels for someone.” Jae-in wants to know what Ji-ho finds attractive about his mystery woman and laughs when he answers, “She’s such a fool.” When Ji-ho gets a call from Eun-woo, Jung-in directs him to her room and cringes when she sees the clothes that she tossed onto the floor. Jung-in shoves the clothes into her closet just as Eun-woo asks Ji-ho why he isn’t talking. Ji-ho explains that he’s at a friend’s house and the boy pries, “Are you at the teacher’s place?” Even though Ji-ho denies it, Eun-woo asks to speak to the teacher, which Jung-in overhears. Jung-in takes the phone and smiles at Ji-ho while she talks with his son. When Jung-in sweetly ends the call, “I’ll see you in your dream,” Ji-ho is overcome with emotion. Later, the impromptu party is interrupted by the doorbell. The sisters are surprised to see that Ki-seok is the visitor and Jung-in instructs Jae-in not to come out. When Jung-in walks out, Ki-seok can tell that she’s been drinking. Inside, Jae-in tries to keep the party going but Ji-ho keeps glancing at the door. Ki-seok argues that Jung-in needs to observe good manners but she reasons, “We have no respect for each other, so who cares how our relationship ends?” Angry, Ki-seok insists on working things out but Jung-in warns him to lower his voice. Ki-seok wants to go somewhere else to talk but Jung-in refuses and when she tries to go back inside, he grabs her. When everyone inside hears Jung-in protest, “Don’t do that,” Jae-in gets up to investigate. Young-jae whispers that it’s time to go but Ji-ho points out that would only make things more awkward. One of Ji-ho’s shoes gets kicked outside when Jae-in opens the door and explains, “We have guests…” When Jae-in invites Ki-seok to join them, Jung-in sends her sister back inside, alone. Ki-seok reminds Jung-in that he gave her time to think and asks for the same consideration. Once Jung-in returns, Ji-ho tells Young-jae, “Let’s go.” Jae-in is upset that Ki-seok ruined the fun but Young-jae insists, “We were going to leave anyway.” On his way out, Ji-ho give’s Jung-in’s shoulder a reassuring pat. As they wait for the kindergarten bus the next morning, Ji-ho’s mother asks Eun-woo about his phone call with his father. The boy explains that he talked with the teacher, “She told me that I need to go to bed early to grow taller.” Mom crouches down to double check that Eun-woo is talking about a woman and the boy reminds her that all teachers are women. Cute. Once the bus leaves with Eun-woo, Mom sits in the dry cleaner’s shop to think. When Dad joins her, Mom shares her suspicion, “I think Ji-ho is seeing someone,” and she’s already guessed that the woman works at the library that Ji-ho and Eun-woo visited. Chairman Kwon arrives at the school just as Jung-in’s after, Principal Lee, returns from a meeting. Principal Lee promises to write up a report for the chairman’s benefit but Chairman Kwon suggests taking a walk together first. Chairman Kwon offers Principal Lee a position at his foundation after his retirement. Principal Lee thanks the chairman, who uses the opportunity to counsel, “And about our kids…Marriage is a major life event, so we should really think it through…Let’s not make a rash decision.” Ha-rin returns to her desk, puzzled about some new dinosaur children’s books that have gone missing. Ha-rin and Young-joo are surprised when Jung-in announces that she took them — for her nephew. Young-joo blinks and then points out that Jung-in has no nephews. Jung-in corrects herself, “It’s my cousin’s son,” and after she makes a hasty exit, her friends agree that Jung-in looked flustered. As the pharmacy team prepares to close, Ye-seul offers to set up Ji-ho on a blind date but Pharmacist Wang warns her not to bother. When Ji-ho and Pharmacist Wang go out for coffee, she confesses that she misses the old Ji-ho, “You were fun, smart, and competitive.” Pharmacist Wang knows how much Eun-woo changed Ji-ho’s life, but she’s noticed a change in Ji-ho recently. Ji-ho admits, “There’s someone I like,” and adds that because of the woman’s situation and a series of obstacles, he isn’t sure if he should pursue her. When asked if he’d regret letting her go, Ji-ho shakes his head, “I can endure it all, she’ll obviously have a hard time because of me.” Pharmacist Wang argues, “You’ve suffered enough…Can I see that high-spirited version of you again?” Shi-hoon stands over a shaken Seo-in in their trashed apartment and rips up a document, “Let me say this one more time. You can’t get out of this marriage.” On his way out, Shi-hoon mentions that he invited Jung-in and Ki-seok over and tells Seo-in to arrange the date. Later, when Seo-in is about to go on the air, Shi-hoon texts a reminder to schedule the get-together. Seo-in’s co-anchor mentions rumors of a scandal and Seo-in vows not to let him down. Seo-in submits her resignation and when her boss wonders what jerk is spreading rumors about her, she says nothing. He offers Seo-in the support of the company but she points out its inability to stop the rumors. Seo-in’s boss worries that she has plans to join another network but Seo-in claims that she wants to study. Her boss mentions the company’s training program but Seo-in insists on keeping her plans private. Jung-in’s mother stops at the library to talk to Jung-in. When Mom informs Jung-in that Chairman Kwon offered her father a job at the foundation, Jung-in realizes that her parents expect the offer to influence her decision about Ki-seok. Jung-in reminds her mother that this is what happened with Seo-in, which is why Jung-in and her father can’t get along. EPISODE 12 RECAP Ji-ho meets Hyun-soo outside of the bank and when they see Ki-seok, Hyun-soo invites him to join them for a drink. Ki-seok can’t make it since he’s on his way to see his girlfriend but after seeing Ji-ho’s shoes, he changes his mind. Jae-in and Young-jae are out together again and Jae-in mentions that Ji-ho and Jung-in behaved suspiciously the night that they were all together. Young-jae comes to their defense — Ji-ho just went into Jung-in’s room to talk on the phone and Jung-in went in to tidy up. Jae-in persists, “Those two seem fishy, right,” and Young-jae blurts out, “Yes. I mean, no. She has a boyfriend.” Young-joo catches up to Jung-in after work to ask if she’s on her way to end things for good with Ki-seok. When Jung-in informs her that Ki-seok cancelled, Young-joo warns, “Don’t think you’re out of the woods yet.” Over drinks, Hyun-soo asks Ki-seok why he cancelled his plans with his girlfriend. Ki-seok stares at Ji-ho before bringing up the other night. Ji-ho readily admits, “Yes, I was at the apartment. I knew you came by, but I couldn’t come out…” Ki-seok sighs in relief when Ji-ho adds that he was there with Jae-in and Young-jae. Hyun-soo looks confused, so Ki-seok explains that his friends were invited to his girlfriend’s house by her sister. Hyun-soo comes to his friends’ defense but Ki-seok now finds the entire situation funny. Ki-seok admits that when he saw the mens’ shoes, “I got pissed because it seemed like she had someone else.” Amused by his misunderstanding, Ki-seok tells Ji-ho, “If I had known it was you, I would’ve gone in and buried the hatchet with Jung-in.” Ki-seok looks puzzled when Ji-ho admits, “I should’ve told you the truth.” Young-jae gets a call from Hyun-soo and has to explain, “We didn’t plan on going there and nothing happened.” Young-jae tells Jae-in that Ki-seok found out that he and Ji-ho were at the apartment and she mutters, “That was fast.” Jung-in sees the pair on her way to her building and Jae-in informs her that Ki-seok and Ji-ho are together. When Jung-in enters her apartment, she pulls out her phone, unsure what to do. Jae-in walks in to confront her sister about Ji-ho, “You’re the woman he likes, right?” Jung-in’s silence says everything and Jae-in has to ask, “Do you like him too?” When Jung-in confesses that she does, Jae-in summarizes, “So the two men pining over you are currently together.” When Jung-in is about to call Ji-ho, Jae-in orders her to call Ki-seok instead to find out what he knows. Ki-seok lays it on a bit thick for the benefit of Ji-ho when Jung-in calls, “When have you ever asked me to rush over?” Ki-seok is convinced that Jung-in probably wants to make up so Hyun-soo urges him to hurry. Ji-ho protests, “Can’t you stay…Can’t your girlfriend come here instead?” Hyun-soo pronounces Ji-ho drunk and once Ki-seok is gone, he asks, “What’s going on,” but a miserable Ji-ho can only shake his head and whisper that it’s nothing. While Jung-in waits for Ki-seok to arrive, Ji-ho tries to cheer himself up with a call to Eun-woo. Over wine, Jae-in explains to Ki-seok, “It was my doing, so no more misunderstandings.” Ki-seok assures Jae-in that he doubted Jung-in for no reason because Ji-ho poses no threat. Jae-in doesn’t understand so Ki-seok explains that Ji-ho is a single father. Ki-seok laughs that Ji-ho tried to stop him from coming over. Jung-in decides that he must have been drunk and Ki-seok agrees, otherwise Ji-ho’s comment would be strange. Jae-in asks Ki-seok to forget about what happened but he reminds her that it’s Ji-ho they’re talking about. Jae-in takes exception to Ki-seok’s attitude, “You can’t judge someone just because he’s a single father. It’s out of line to say that he’s not even worth considering.” Ki-seok grumbles that he feels like the bad guy, which could have been avoided if Jung-in had reconciled with him sooner. Ki-seok grabs Jung-in’s hand to announce, “We’re thinking about getting married. Can I count on your help?” Jae-in squelches her surprise with a smile and says nothing. Jung-in walks Ki-seok to the street and when he asks, “What will become of us,” she tells him, “It’s late.” Ki-seok wonders if she’s talking about them and pulls Jung-in into a hug that she doesn’t return. Ki-seok tries to convince Jung-in, “Let’s be more in love. I’ll do better.” Back in her apartment, Jung-in asks Jae-in if she’s disappointed. Jae-in admits that she’s disappointed with Ki-seok and feels badly about Ji-ho. Jae-in asks if Jung-in has made up her mind and when she shakes her head, Jae-in promises, “Just know that I have your back no matter what.” Jung-in tears up when Jae-in gives her a sisterly hug. In the morning, Ye-seul warns her boss not to go into the pharmacy because Ji-ho is in the middle of a serious phone call with a woman. In the back room, Ji-ho tells Jung-in that he knows that Jung-in’s actions were meant to protect him. When Jung-in apologizes, “I’m sorry for liking you,” Ji-ho exclaims, “What a pleasant morning.” When Chairman Kwon drops off an herbal tonic, Ki-seok invites his father for a cup of coffee. In Ki-seok’s office, Chairman Kwon warns his son to cut ties with people who cling to him because he works at a bank, “You must be objective…Blindly believing in them will drive you off a cliff.” Chairman Kwon informs Ki-seok that when Principal Lee retires, he’ll work for the foundation. Ki-seok is shocked when his father asks him to bring Jung-in home for a visit. Chairman Kwon laughs and asks if they broke up but Ki-seok answers that he’s marrying Jung-in. After another intense basketball game, Ji-ho announces that he’s headed home. Ki-seok urges him to join the team for dinner and there’s an uncomfortable pause until Ji-ho agrees. Hyun-soo offers Ji-ho a ride but he decides to go with Ki-seok. During the drive, Ki-seok asks Ji-ho why the identity of the woman that he’s seeing is a secret from Hyun-soo. Ki-seok envies the excitement of a new relationship and Ji-ho asks, “Not for you anymore?” Ki-seok admits, “The honeymoon phase is over in about a month anyway. Once that ends, you just keep dating each other unless something happens.” When Ki-seok confirms that he’s been with his girlfriend for a long time, Ji-ho points out, “But then you could fall out of love.” Ki-seok thinks that Ji-ho is talking about cheating, something that he would never do, but he would break up with his girlfriend if she ever cheated. When Ji-ho asks if Ki-seok could let her go, Ki-seok confesses, “I wouldn’t let go so easily…” Ji-ho ignores a phone call but Ki-seok suspects that it’s the mystery woman and urges him answer. It’s Jung-in, who’s checking to see if Ji-ho is at the pharmacy because she has something to say. Ji-ho tells her that he just finished his basketball game and Jung-in guesses that he’s with Ki-seok. When Jung-in offers to hang up, Ji-ho pleads, “Don’t hang up.” COMMENTS It’s impossible to ignore how differently Jung-in behaves whenever Ki-seok is around. She’s tense, unhappy and overall miserable with Ki-seok but he doesn’t see it. Ki-seok seems to think that if he protests long enough, he can get Jung-in to agree to get married. What Ki-seok can’t see is how Jung-in behaves when he’s not around, she’s like a different person. Back in Episode 4, Jung-in and Ki-seok sat on her couch when she asked him for a break. They sat as far apart as possible and Jung-in was stiff and uncomfortable. In contrast, Jung-in sits on that same couch with Ji-ho while Jae-in and Young-jae are out to pick up drinks. Even though they are seated just as far apart as Jung-in and Ki-seok were, Jung-in prepared some tea and she is relaxed and willing to make eye contact with Ji-ho. It’s Ji-ho who can’t relax yet he still manages to joke with Jung-in and gets her to smile. It’s the same thing with the hugs. Ki-seok pulls Jung-in into a tight hug after meeting with her and Jae-in, even though Jung-in does nothing to encourage him. Jung-in sighs and rolls her eyes as Ki-seok promises to do better and it’s painful to watch him cling to her. When Jung-in returns to her apartment, Jae-in comforts her with another hug and Jung-in hugs her sister back and smiles amid her tears. It’s not that Jung-in is a cold woman, it’s that she no longer has romantic feelings for Ki-seok. Jung-in hasn’t been willing to admit that to Ki-seok, instead determined to break up with him without citing a specific reason. Even though she now has feelings for Ji-ho, that’s not the only reason that Jung-in wants to be free. It’s worrisome to know Ki-seok’s perspective about relationships as explained to Ji-ho on that drive to the post-game dinner. Relationships get comfortable and continue if there’s no good reason to end them. That’s an awfully low standard and explains why Jung-in is so underwhelmed by Ki-seok’s suggestion of marriage. It sounds as if Ki-seok has no idea how to love Jung-in properly, which is the reason that Jae-in never warmed up to Shi-hoon. Well, there are may reasons for that but no one knows them, yet. I get the feeling that Ki-seok never treasured Jung-in, he just continued to see her because there wasn’t a good reason not to. Ji-ho is on a different plane. Ji-ho is willing to suffer an unwanted separation and battles his temptations for Jung-in’s sake. Ji-ho does treasure Jung-in and is willing to let her go unlike Ki-seok, who won’t even consider breaking up with Jung-in. Unfortunately, Jung-in’s parents think more like Ki-seok and now that Chairman Kwon has offered Principal Lee a post-retirement position, they’re even more anxious to see their daughter married to his son. As gruff and unpleasant as Chairman Kwon can be, if you strip away how he speaks, what he has to say makes lots of sense. Chairman Kwon is actually quite wise and preaches caution, with good reason. Marriage is a big decision and a bad choice leads to a difficult life. Ki-seok should be cautious at work because personal feelings interfere with sound decisions. I’m finding myself warming up to the man even though his delivery could use some work. One parallel that I find adorable is the father and son connection with Jung-in. These two fell for Jung-in at first sight and can’t stop thinking about her. Eun-woo can’t wait to see her again and when he heard that Ji-ho was at a friend’s house, he instinctively knew he was talking about Jung-in. That nighttime conversation between Eun-woo and Jung-in moved Ji-ho to tears because it must have been so rewarding to know that the two people in his heart have a bond of their own. Unfortunately, Ki-seok isn’t about to step aside so that Jung-in can find happiness with someone else, especially not a man like Ji-ho, who’s a single father. Ki-seok’s refusal to acknowledge that Ji-ho is a serious romantic rival shows just how clueless he truly is. recaps discussion news cast 106 July 14, 2019July 14, 2019 One Spring Night Episodes 31-32 Final by TeriYaki It turns out that nothing can shake the connection between our main couple, so now it’s time to accept what’s meant to be. That doesn’t mean that they have overcome every challenge, but they’re more than ready to become a family of three. Our main couple recognizes their good fortune, having someone that they cherish by their side, and their devotion promises to overcome even the most difficult obstacles. EPISODE 31 Ji-ho sits in the closed pharmacy with Jung-in and explains that ever since Eun-woo was a baby, he’s had to bottle up his feelings to survive. Jung-in asks Ji-ho he ever thought of leaving Eun-woo and when he turns away, she breathes, “That’s insane.” Ji-ho explains that on the day that he got drunk he wasn’t able to successfully suppress his feelings. Jung-in gulps down her tea and tells Ji-ho, “A verbal apology is one thing, but that can’t be all. Let’s go.” Ji-hi sits across from Jung-in in his kitchen and does his best to explain away his drunken episode, “It was a mistake. Doesn’t that just make me human?” When Jung-in threatens to sign him up for a sober clinic, Ji-ho puts his pen to paper. Under Jung-in’s watchful eye, Ji-ho reluctantly writes, “No drinking allowed. Engagement with Jung-in to be broken off upon violation.” Jung-in smears lipstick on Ji-ho’s thumb so that he can affix his thumbprint and then posts the pledge on his refrigerator. During dinner, Chairman Kwon confronts Principal Lee, “So is your daughter going to marry my son or what?” Principal Lee explains that parents must respect the decisions of adult children, “That’s how I’ve treated my daughters all this time.” Ki-seok haltingly agrees with Principal Lee, “You’re right. Marriage should be our decision.” When Ki-seok announces that he and Jung-in will marry by the year’s end, Chairman Kwon and Principal Lee hide their surprise by emptying their cups. Over dinner at Ji-ho’s place, Jung-in admits that she always expected to get her mother’s support. Ji-ho appreciates how difficult it must have been for Jung-in’s mother to give him her approval, so he accepts that it will be harder for her father. Jung-in is touched when Ji-ho explains how he copes with her parents, “Because of you. You approve of me.” Both dads are drunk by the time that dinner is over and Chairman Kwon again asks if their kids are ever getting married. Chairman Kwon admits that he doesn’t trust his own son or Jung-in but he’s offended when Principal Lee confesses that he doesn’t trust Ki-seok either. The men argue about the kids and the dads are about to trade blows until Ki-seok and Chairman Kwon’s driver intervene. Ki-seok takes Principal Lee home and helps to get him into bed. He sits down with Jung-in’s mother and explains why he had dinner with his father and Principal Lee, “It’s about time we talked in detail about our wedding.” Ki-seok tells Jung-in’s surprised mother that he has to marry Jung-in because Ji-ho isn’t “decent” enough for her. Ki-seok shares that Ji-ho came to his workplace to threaten him with the photos and concludes that Ji-ho is after money. Mom scoffs in disbelief when Ki-seok promises to guide Jung-in back to her proper place. Ji-ho is at the pharmacy when Jung-in calls with the news that her mother asked for an official meeting. Ji-ho agrees but he asks if he can bring Eun-woo along as well. Jung-in can’t believe that she didn’t think of it herself and she readily agrees. When Jung-in tells her friends about the meeting, Ha-rin and Young-joo are impressed by Ji-ho’s bravery. Ha-rin teases that she should buy something at the pharmacy and Jung-in playfully quips, “Don’t forget your wallet.” Ji-ho visits his parents to discuss his meeting with Jung-in’s mother. They’re worried that Eun-woo’s presence will make Jung-in’s mother uncomfortable but they relax once they learn that Jung-in wants Eun-woo there. When Ji-ho leaves, his father praises him for being a great father and tells Ji-ho that he’s proud of him. After leaving Principal Lee’s house, Ki-seok goes to see his father. Chairman Kwon can’t understand how Ki-seok can marry a girl who’s with another man and wonders, “Can you still love her for the rest of your life?” Ki-seok insists that staying married is all that matters. Ki-seok blames his father for his failed relationship with Jung-in — he never approved of her, he took those photos and picked a fight with Principal Lee. Ki-seok is convinced that he has to force Jung-in to marry him in order to protect his father from Ji-ho’s threat. Hyun-soo is on the phone with Young-jae while waiting for the elevator at the bank, unaware that Ki-seok is right behind him. When Hyun-soo learns about the meeting with Jung-in’s mother, he exclaims, “We’ll see who marries after Ji-ho.” Ki-seok asks about Ji-ho and Hyun-soo has to explain, “Oh, it’s just I think he’s getting married soon.” Hyun-soo escapes into the elevator, leaving behind a stunned Ki-seok. Jae-in arrives at Seo-in’s place while Jung-in and Seo-in set aside baby gifts from Shi-hoon. Jae-in complains, “Showering you with baby gifts won’t change anything. How did he become a dentist with this level of stupidity?” When Jae-in blurts out, “You should’ve pressed charges that day,” Jung-in asks what she’s talking about. Jung-in refuses to be left in the dark, forcing Jae-in to reveal, “Shi-hoon assaulted Seo-in.” Shi-hoon sits in his office with Seo-in’s divorce petition in front of him. After a great deal of hesitation, Shi-hoon finally places his stamp on the form. Back at Seo-in’s place, a tearful Jung-in searches for Seo-in, who’s taken refuge in her bedroom. Jung-in hugs her sister tightly and when Jae-in joins them, the sisters all sob together. On the day of the meeting, Ji-ho’s mother and father watch happily as Ji-ho drives away with Eun-woo. Ji-ho joins up with Jung-in in the parking lot of the restaurant where they’re meeting and introduces himself to her mother. After greeting Eun-woo warmly, Jung-in introduces the little boy to her mother and sisters. During lunch, Jae-in confesses that she already knows Ji-ho quite well. Ji-ho asks her to be kind but Jae-in teases Jung-in, “How much is it worth?” Jung-in forgets all about Eun-woo when she pulls back her fist and threatens, “Do you want a piece of me?” After everyone laughs at Jung-in, Jae-in invites Eun-woo to play outside. Seo-in tells Ji-ho that she’ll need pointers as a single parent and he agrees to share what he’s learned, even though his parents raised Eun-woo. Seo-in has one question for Ji-ho, “What went through your mind as you handled it all?” Ji-ho explains his responsibility towards Eun-woo, “He’s living his life with only me to look up to, so I couldn’t crumble. The same goes for Jung-in. She’s putting her entire faith in me, so I’ll protect her no matter what.” Suddenly Jung-in, her mother and Seo-in are all weeping, moved by Ji-ho’s words. In a modest restaurant, Shi-hoon eats lunch accompanied by a couple of bottles of soju. Ki-seok happens to walk in and at the sight of Shi-hoon, he asks why he’s drinking in the middle of the day. Shi-hoon confesses that he’s getting divorced and blames Ki-seok, who failed to approve his loan. Over dessert, Jung-in’s mother confesses that she was flustered when she heard that Eun-woo was coming along but as a parent, she was touched. Ji-ho thanks Jung-in’s mother for her kind acceptance of him and Eun-woo. Jung-in’s mother warns Ji-ho, “…you have a long way to go to persuade Jung-in’s dad.” Ji-ho is prepared for that but he’s worried about Jung-in. Jung-in assures her mother and sisters, “We’ll get through it. We’ll wait for Dad to change his mind and accept Ji-ho.” Jung-in promises that she’ll be able to endure the challenging times, “…because I’ll have Ji-ho right by my side.” Ji-ho reaches over for Jung-in’s hand and when they smile at each other, Jung-in’s mother sheds more tears. EPISODE 32 Ki-seok has joined Shi-hoon for lunch and drunkenly complains, “Seriously, I never thought a loser like Yoo Ji-ho would…How dare she even compare me to Ji-ho?” Shocked that to hear that Ki-seok had a competitor, Shi-hoon regrets that he’s only hearing about it now, “You should’ve told me sooner…I would’ve told the entire family.” Shi-hoon comes up with a plan that he insists is a win-win for him and Ki-seok. Shi-hoon wants to inform Seo-in’s parents about the divorce, convinced that they’ll step in to delay it until after Jung-in and Ki-seok are married. That gives Shi-hoon time to fix his marriage. Even though he’s drunk, Ki-seok finally sees Shi-hoon clearly. Ki-seok stands up and after he slips on his shoes, he tells Shi-hoon, “Let’s just figure things out separately.” Ki-seok walks away and leaves Shi-hoon behind. Jung-in’s mother and sisters seem at peace after meeting Ji-ho. Seo-in added a photo of her and Eun-woo to the journal that she started for her baby. Written under the sonogram photo is Seo-in’s wish, “I hope you only see, listen, say and dream beautiful things.” Seo-in sits at her desk to add her version of Ji-ho’s words, “I promise you that I’ll protect you forever.” Jung-in’s mother smiles as she strolls down a street lined with shops while Jae-in drinks beer with Young-jae by the river. He asks what she’s thinking about and Jae-in confesses, “The reason I came back to Korea,” which she just realized had nothing to do with her studies. Stopped at a light on the drive home, Ji-ho confesses that he can’t believe that this day actually came. Eun-woo asks, “Are you and Ms. Lee getting married?” When Ji-ho answers, “Yes,” Eun-woo wants to know, “Then, is she going to be my mom?” Ji-ho and Eun-woo smile when Jung-in answers the young boy, “Yes, I’ll be your mom.” Surprisingly, Pharmacist Wang isn’t thrilled with Ji-ho’s good news, “You’d better not get married. I won’t go to your wedding or give you a money gift.” Ye-seul guesses that Pharmacist Wang is worried that Ji-ho will quit so he promises that he’ll remain at the pharmacy, no matter where he lives. When Pharmacist Wang asks Ji-ho to sign a pledge, he escapes to the back room. Ye-seul is amused that Ji-ho is taking his pledge so seriously but Pharmacist Wang reminds her, “He’ll be such a sucker for his wife.” Principal Lee visits Chairman Kwon’s office and both men apologize for their drunken behavior. Chairman Kwon takes the opportunity to offer Principal Lee a director position once he retires but Principal Lee asks for some time to think about it. At the library, Jung-in ducks into the break room to answer a call from her father, who asks, “Is there no chance for you and Ki-seok anymore?” Jung-in knows that her father’s heart aches whenever he sees Seo-in and promises that if he’s patient, he’ll soon see her living happily. When Principal Lee leaves the school for the day, he walks away with heavy footsteps. Chairman Kwon is at home when Principal Lee calls but he doesn’t answer his phone. Instead, Chairman Kwon calls Ki-seok and tells his son, “You’ve done more than enough.” Jung-in is alone at home when Ki-seok texts her, “I’m sorry about everything.” Ji-ho arrives at his place with Hyun-soo and Young-jae, who are laden with drinks and snacks. Ji-ho makes it clear to his friends that they must leave after watching the soccer game. Young-jae explains that Jung-in won’t let Ji-ho drink and Hyun-soo complains, “She has him wrapped around her finger.” Ji-ho does try not to drink that night but he can’t resist. He calls Jung-in as she’s going to bed, claiming that his friends left after the game. Jung-in thinks that Ji-ho sounds down because he couldn’t drink but he explains that it’s because he’s already in bed. Ji-ho tells Jung-in, “I love you,” before hanging up. When Ji-ho walks out of his bedroom, Hyun-soo and Young-jae praise him for successfully fooling Jung-in. Ji-ho feels guilty and is about to call Jung-in to confess that they’ve been drinking but Young-jae takes his phone and pushes Ji-ho back into his bedroom. Hyun-soo uses Ji-ho’s phone to order delivery while Ji-ho is trapped. Young-joo pokes her head out of her window when she hears deliverymen running up and down the stairs. Jung-in wakes up when she gets a text from Young-joo, “Is Ji-ho having a housewarming party today?” In the morning, a taxi drops Jung-in off at Ji-ho’s place. She finds Ji-ho, Hyun-soo and Young-jae sprawled out in the living room littered with empty beer cans and soju bottles. She opens the door and slams it, waking up Young-jae who then wakes up Ji-ho. Ji-ho mumbles that they didn’t drink..that much. Jung-in pulls Ji-ho’s pledge from the refrigerator but Ji-ho stops her before she can leave. Ji-ho isn’t the only one in trouble. Jae-in is at Seo-in’s place but that doesn’t stop her from shouting into her phone, “Young-jae, are you not going to study? I’m really going to break up with you if you don’t pass the exam again.” Back at his place, Ji-ho kneels in front of an angry Jung-in. Ji-ho argues that Jung-in is being too harsh and when she doesn’t relent, he claims, “My stomach is upset.” Jung-in has to stifle a smile before asking Ji-ho if he got that move from Eun-woo. Ji-ho promises that he’ll never drink again but that’s not why Jung-in is angry. Jung-in wants an explanation for all of the lies he told her when he called and Ji-ho admits, “I didn’t want to be scolded.” When Jung-in asks, “Did you really think you could fool me,” Ji-ho smiles and admits, “Yes.” Once Jung-in laughs, Ji-ho turns on the charm, “Forgive me just this one time.” Jung-in agrees but she grabs the pledge and informs Ji-ho, “I won’t marry you though.” Jung-in tries to escape to Ji-ho’s bedroom but Ji-ho is right behind her. Jung-in jumps onto the bed to keep the pledge away from Ji-ho but soon they collapse onto the bed where they laugh and kiss. Jung-in exits the flower shop next-door to Ji-ho’s parents’ house and asks Ji-ho if she looks all right. Ji-ho has never seen Jung-in so nervous but she’s worried, “What if they won’t let me marry you?” When Ji-ho’s parents greet them, Jung-in hands his mother a bouquet and an excited Eun-woo jumps into her arms. Jung-in’s mother is on the phone with Seo-in, discussing Jung-in’s meeting with Ji-ho’s parents, but she hangs up when her husband walks in. Jung-in’s mom sees how low her husband is feeling and suggests how they should deal with their daughters from now on, “Let’s neither expect too much from them nor pressure them in any way. Let’s be that kind of parents.” When Jung-in’s father sighs heavily, Jung-in’s mother invites him out for a nice dinner. Ji-ho’s father can’t take his eyes off of Jung-in as she looks up dinosaurs with Eun-woo. Jung-in perks up when Ji-ho’s father asks if she drinks but when he offers something to Ji-ho, she announces that he quit drinking. Ki-seok across from the assemblyman’s daughter in a restaurant. She asks Ki-seok when he had his last relationship but he answers that he doesn’t remember. When asked if he’s interested in marriage, Ki-seok answers, “Obviously, that’s why I’m here.” Ki-seok adds, “I was just thinking that I’m glad I decided to come here today,” but when the assemblyman’s daughter isn’t looking, his smile fades. After putting Eun-woo to bed, Ji-ho rejoins the party and recognizes that Jung-in has had a lot to drink. Eager to put Ji-ho’s parents at ease, Jung-in promises, “We’ll be considerate of each other and be happy together. And I’ll do my best to be a good mom to Eun-woo.” When his mother starts to cry and his father has to look away, Ji-ho takes Jung-in’s hand and nods approvingly. In the morning, Jung-in wakes up in Eun-woo’s bed and moans, “Oh, no.” She grabs her phone to call Ji-ho, who’s been watching her through the door. When Ji-ho walks in, he has to explain that he couldn’t take Jung-in home because she insisted on staying there for the night. Ji-ho teases a worried Jung-in that his mother is angry, “She said she can’t let you marry me.” Ji-ho adds that on the other hand, his father is thrilled that he has a new drinking buddy. When Jung-in asks how to sneak out, Ji-ho hands her some paper and Jung-in suddenly complains that her stomach hurts. Jung-in can’t keep from laughing when Ji-ho insists that she has to write down her pledge. At her place, Jung-in grabs a water bottle from her refrigerator where Ji-ho’s amended pledge is posted, “I will never lie. Engagement with Jung-in to be broken off upon violation.” Jung-in’s pledge is posted on Ji-ho’s refrigerator, “I, Lee Jung-in will marry Yoo Ji-ho no matter what. If not, I’ll stay single forever.” Jung-in smiles when Ji-ho texts her at work, “Thank you for coming to me.” Ji-ho is just as happy when Jung-in texts back, “Spring brought you to me.” It’s dark when Jung-in passes by the street crew working outside the pharmacy. Jung-in recreates their first meeting when she asks Ji-ho if he has medicine for hangovers. Ji-ho offers to open the medicine for her, but warns, “I don’t do it for women who brought their wallets.” They both laugh when the jackhammer starts up. Ji-ho needs to finish before he can leave and while Jung-in waits, she gets a text. When she looks for Ji-ho, he pulls her into the back room and they pass by the doorway many times, hugging, laughing and kissing. COMMENTS I’m so grateful that One Spring Night didn’t let its viewers down, concluding with a very sweet and satisfying ending. The finale mirrored the relationship between Jung-in and Ji-ho, it was committed to the pair at the heart of this drama to the end. Honestly, I want to go back and watch it all over again. One Spring Night tackled so many difficult subjects but it never felt too heavy. That’s in large part due to the well defined characters who were at the center of the controversies, especially the Lee sisters. They are three loving sisters who inspire and uplift one another through the tough times and together, they look forward to a more promising future with a new generation. Even though she didn’t explain it, I’m positive that Jae-in returned to Korea because she missed her sisters. While Jung-in’s and Ji-ho’s commitment to each other and to Eun-woo is undeniably solid, there are lots of adjustments to be made as they face marriage and become a family of their own. Like many bachelors, Ji-ho has to learn how to behave with his friends so as not to cause problems on the home front. Since Ji-ho is the first one in his circle to settle down, neither he nor his friends have any experience with that so it was only a matter of time before they would clash with Jung-in. What’s funny is that Jung-in has similar struggles and Ji-ho is more than happy to point that out, as evidenced by the two pledges. There’s no doubt that Jung-in will be a demanding wife, she’s admitted as much, but only someone with such a strong personality would be able to defy established norms and date a single father. Ji-ho’s calmness helps to temper Jung-in’s feistiness and they continue to prove what a good match they are. Jung-in’s mother and sisters got to see this firsthand when they met formally which is why there were so many tears and a sense of peace in the aftermath. Jung-in may not have made as strong of a positive impression on Ji-ho’s parents thanks to her overindulgence, but her love for Eun-woo buys a great deal of goodwill. So now, we launch these characters into the future. It’s a given that Ji-ho and Jung-in will get married and that Eun-woo will now have a mother of his own plus a loving maternal grandmother and some pretty awesome aunts. Young-jae had better pass his civil exam if he wants to continue his relationship with Jae-in, who’s easy, breezy attitude has morphed into Jung-in’s toughness. Seo-in finally got her divorce and now everyone in her family knows what a brute Shi-hoon really is. Sadly, Shi-hoon hasn’t changed a bit, but surprisingly, Ki-seok has. Thanks to Shi-hoon, Ki-seok finally saw how pitiful it was to cling to someone who has moved on and he accepted that his future doesn’t include Jung-in. I found it really hard to watch the breakup of Jung-in’s father, Principal Lee, and Chairman Kwon. It honestly broke my heart. These two men, who had gotten used to each other over the years, realized how much they meant to each other as their children’s relationship fell apart. Principal Lee really wanted to work with Chairman Kwon after he retires and I believe that was in part because they’re so used to each other. And Chairman Kwon, as much as he may have disapproved of Jung-in in the beginning, he sincerely appreciated her qualities and envisioned a future with her and a continued future with her father. When Principal Lee walked away from the school after his conversation with Jung-in, it was clear that he had accepted that his relationship with Chairman Kwon would be a casualty of Ki-seok’s and Jung-in’s breakup. What I appreciated the most about Jung-in and Ji-ho’s relationship was its focus on simple, stolen moments of happiness with the right person by your side. That’s the goal, to go through the ups and downs of life with your best friend while being good to each other. I can imagine Jung-in and Ji-ho growing old together, surrounded by loving family and friends. I can’t ask for anything more.
